CBNA – What is Cannabinolic Acid?
There is very little is known about this cannabinoid compound other than it is not a psychoactive compound like THC – meaning it will not cause a high or affect one’s ability to function in any way.

The connection between CBNA and other cannabinoids is as follows:
When cannabis is exposed to air long enough (or to ultraviolet light to manipulate the process), THCA will turn into CBNA
CBNA can then be decarboxylated (heated) to further be converted in CBN.
These cannabinoids are very closely related. This is reason enough to study CBNA in greater depth. Presently, we can only surmise that it will have qualities similar to both THCA and CBN.

THCA is a cannabis compound found in the plant when it is in a raw state. It doesn’t cause you do get high like THC will, mostly because it is a molecule too large to bind with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain, known as CB1 receptors which are part of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
THCA seems to have therapeutic effects such as helping with the inflammation that is a part of living with Lupus and arthritis. It also helps with nausea and will protect the brain and neural network from injury and the normal effects of aging.

It is a logical conclusion to imagine that CBNA would have qualities or traits similar to either of these precursor compounds. Scientists are working now to find more definitive answers to our questions, and learning how to formulate cannabinoid compounds designed to treat specific conditions.
There may well come a day when a doctor can order a formulation designed for a specific patient. As of today, the technology exists to isolate molecules – CBD isolate is already available on the market – so complex formulation is certain to come next.

The thing that has been discovered with isolates, particularly in the case of CBD isolate, is that it has less of an impact on certain conditions when taken alone than it does when taken in a full-spectrum oil, where all the other cannabinoids are present.
This has led researchers to discover what they’ve deemed as “the entourage effect” which describes the way some cannabinoids work with others as a team to be powerfully effective – but are not near as effective when standing alone.
With over 100 cannabinoids to explore, future research will see more studies about each cannabinoid as it stands alone, and with others. There is no doubt that this will impact the way we look at medicine over the next twenty to thirty years.
