CBGVA - THE BREAKDOWN
- CBGVA IS A CANNABINOID FOUND IN CANNABIS
- THROUGH A PROCESS OF BIOSYNTHESIS, CBGVA PRODUCES THCVA, CBDVA, AND CBCVA
- CBGVA, LIKE MANY OTHER CANNABINOIDS, IS NON-PSYCHOACTIVE
- RESEARCHERS BELIEVE CBGVA CONTAINS ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES WHICH MAY BE USEFUL FOR ARTHRITIS AND OTHER INFLAMMATORY ISSUES.
- COMPARED TO DELTA-8-THC, DELTA-9-THC, AND CBD, RESEARCH IN CBGVA IS MINIMAL AT THIS POINT
WHAT ARE PRECURSOR CANNABINOIDS?
Cannabis doesn’t directly make the cannabinoids which we most commonly associate with the plant, THC and CBD. Instead, it synthesizes several cannabinoid acids (CBGA, THCA, CBDA, CBCA, CBGVA, THCVA, CBDVA, and CBCVA) which must then be “activated” (decarboxylated), generally by heat, to create the compounds CBD and THC. These cannabinoids with an “A” at the end indicate that they are a type of acid, and when an acid is decarboxylated, the “A” leaves, creating smaller molecules that act differently but may retain some traits of the ‘parent molecule’ known as the precursor.

WHAT DOES CBGVA DO IN THE BODY?
While research on the medicinal potential is sorely lacking, a study published in the International Journal of Cancer Research and Treatment examined the effects of six different cannabinoids, including CBGVA, on leukemia cells. The findings were positive. Additionally, we know that cannabinoids, in general, are able to:
- EASE ANXIETY
- SLOW TUMOR GROWTH AND ERADICATE CANCER CELLS
- HELP REDUCE SYMPTOMS OF NAUSEA AND VOMITING
- BALANCE WEIGHT BY STIMULATING APPETITE IN THOSE SUFFERING FROM CONDITIONS THAT REDUCE APPETITE TYPICALLY
- RELAX MUSCLES FOR THOSE WHO SUFFER TIGHTNESS AFTER SEIZURES, SPASMS WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AND MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
- REDUCE SEIZURE ACTIVITY
- RELIEVE THE SYMPTOMS OF PTSD
- HELPS TO CONTROL TREMORS WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE
People immediately assumed that it was the CBD that was beneficial. It turns out that other cannabinoids, such as CBG, were actually responsible for their wellness and/or relief of symptoms.
It isn’t widely known that CBD was actually the first cannabinoid discovered and researched. THC was discovered and learned about after. THC is known to bond with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain which are part of the cannabinoid system, sometimes called the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
Since the early days of the 60s when this research started, 100+ cannabinoids have been discovered. Only approximately 80 of them have received research, so much more research needs to happen before we can unlock the total potential of cannabis and the products thereof.
HOW TO BENEFIT FROM CBGVA
Receiving benefits of CBGVA directly would need to come from ingesting hemp or marijuana in a raw form – for example, through juicing. Once heated, you’ll be receiving CBG instead, which has plenty of healing potential. In order to use marijuana, you’ll need to purchase it legally in a state with medical or recreational marijuana laws.
Purchasing marijuana in a state where it is legal and going to a state that still considers it to be a controlled substance that is not legal can land you in a lot of trouble. States do not have to honor a medical card from another state and most likely will not.
CBD oils are legal in all fifty states but there are caveats to this. The DEA (drug enforcement agency) still holds CBD oil and any cannabinoid to be an illegal substance and will arrest you.
Technically, the Farm Bill of 2018 declared that all hemp products were legal to possess. This hasn’t been tested in courts but most states are moving to create laws that indicate the use of CBD oils are legal. This is a step in the right direction and will allow many to enjoy the benefits of CBG and CBGVA for their health conditions.
